Stock Market Today, Oct. 19: IREN Rallies on AI Infrastructure Sentiment Rebound

$27.73 +$0.74 (+2.74%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 10/19/26 IREN ( IREN +2.74% ) , a vertically integrated AI data centers and Bitcoin ( BTC +1.08% ) mining provider, closed at $27.73, up 2.74%. Monday's move followed a rebound in AI infrastructure stocks, and investors are watching financing and execution around the data-center buildout. Trading volume reached 49.8 million shares, coming in nearly 9.4% above its three-month average of 45.5 million shares.

IREN IPO'd in 2021 and shares are down about 27% in 2026. How the markets moved today S&P 500 closed at 7,691, up 0.42%, while the Nasdaq Composite finished at 26,431, up 1.11%. Among AI data centers, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance compute infrastructure peers, Applied Digital closed at $19.25, up 6.65%, and Core Scientific closed at $13.73, up 1.85%.

What this means for investors On Monday, Oct. 19, investors returned to battered AI infrastructure names after a Goldman Sachs upgrade of CoreWeave lifted sentiment across the group. This marks a tumultuous time for these neocloud providers. Their share prices plunged after an Oct. 14 report from research giant Gartner stated 80% of them are expected to go out of business by 2030 due to massive capital spending.

After the sell-off, Goldman Sachs upgraded CoreWeave stock from a Neutral to a Buy, stating that investors were overestimating the financial risk and underestimating the returns delivered by the artificial intelligence boom. The implications suggest not only CoreWeave will benefit, causing IREN stock to rise as well. IREN shares have been volatile in 2026, as demonstrated by a massive beta of over four.

Earlier in October, the stock fell after research company SemiAnalysis noted customer complaints directed at the neocloud's old Bitcoin data centers, which were transitioned to support AI. The critical report on site reliability hit sentiment and helped drive the stock to fresh 52-week lows. Monday's recovery shows investors are still weighing buildout risks against AI demand.
